🌿 Traditional Uses of Dried Inhlaba
1.
Bitter Tonic & Purge
- The dried yellowish-brown sap (aloe bitters) is ground or broken into small pieces.
- Taken in tiny amounts as a purgative → cleans the stomach, removes worms, constipation, or “dirty blood.”
- Often used at the start of healing to “open the system” before other medicines.
2.
Immune & Strengthening
- Small doses of dried inhlaba mixed with other herbs are believed to boost the immune system and make the body more resistant to sickness.
3.
Spiritual Cleansing
- Crushed dried inhlaba may be added to imbiza (herbal decoctions) or bathing mixtures for cleansing, chasing away bad luck, and protection against witchcraft.
4.
Preservation
- Drying the leaves or sap lets the medicine last much longer than fresh aloe gel, making it easy to keep in small sachets .
⚠️ Important: Dried inhlaba is very strong and bitter. Traditionally people are advised to use tiny amounts or mix it with other herbs to avoid stomach cramps or over-purging.
